The flexible platform of the Teaching EMR allows our team to deliver content and evaluation tools to programs anywhere someone has access to a web browser and internet connection. So, you might have some questions.

How will the Teaching EMR enhance health professions education?

Students gain valuable experience safely caring for patients in the immersive learning environment. While educators can evaluate student performance and deliver educational content to learners in innovative ways using the extensive, misidentified patient database, order entry system, and administrator tools all within the Teaching EMR web application.

What types of programs can use it?

Originally it was developed for medical education, but we now have programs across the United States that will begin using the Teaching EMR during the 2016-2017 academic for other studies like Interprofessional Education (IPE). Programs for students in medical, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, and dental to name a few will begin using the web application in the classroom this Fall. The flexibility of the platform allows us to expand beyond those use cases.

What types of curricular activities can an EMR/EHR best serve?

While not exhaustive, the strength of the web software for curriculum could be used for:

Why the Regenstrief Institute?

For the last 46 years, the Regenstrief Institute has been focused on research and innovations at the intersection of healthcare and technology. Dr. Clem McDonald, who is the current Director, Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, developed one of the first electronic medical record systems at Regenstrief in the early 1970’s. A significant proportion of the high-quality research on the subject of EMR/EHR effectiveness in patient care came out of the Institute as of the last research reporting in the mid-2000’s.

What type of technology is the tEMR?

Foundationally, the tEMR application is a clinical application used and tested in daily practice at a local healthcare system by over 15,000 users. Clinicians and care providers designed the system for users. RI developed the first computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system in the country. It is an integral part of the medical record, order entry, and evaluation tool stack in this one web application giving students and educators a single application for learning and evaluation.
